Whittier Neighborhood Boulder Colorado

Updated: Nov 25, 2020

Whittier neighborhood is in the heart of downtown Boulder and an easy walk to the famous Pearl Street Pedestrian Mall. That's the controversial bricked-over part of downtown Boulder that's become a tourist and locals destination since 1976. This is the one that started it all.

LOCATION:

Broadway, Canyon, Bluff, and 26th make up the borders of Whittier, according to data from the City of Boulder.

It's a tight little part of downtown Boulder that's often in high demand due to being within a very short walking distance to Pearl Street, and other popular downtown destinations.

MY TAKE ON THIS NEIGHBORHOOD:

One of the best darn neighborhoods in Boulder if you want a central location near downtown Boulder, within walking distance to all that's great about our town, including big trees, parks, amenities, and everything that locals love about central Boulder.

With recent changes towards the east, the most obvious one being the Twenty-Ninth Shopping district, REI just a few blocks away, and a great elementary school, Whittier shouldn't be overlooked during your quest for a new home in Boulder if you want to explore one of the neighborhoods in the center of the action, that still has charm and maturity. Count on spending between $1 Mil - $2 Mil in Whittier.

HISTORY:

Whittier neighborhood is one of the original Boulder neighborhoods. Back in the late 1800's the Whittier Neighborhood, and the Mapleton Hill neighborhood, were the first established neighborhoods carved out of the hard-pack dirt which made up the majority of the land called Boulder back in that era.

WHAT’S NEW TODAY:

Whittier School is the coveted elementary school of Boulder for many residents. It's the oldest continuously operating school in Colorado (for you history buffs), and if you want your kids to attend, you may have to live in the area. Mapleton Hill residents also attend the Whittier School.

LOCAL HIGHLIGHTS:

Whittier's draw: easy access to downtown, it's a short distance to Boulder's modern YMCA facility at Mapleton & 28th, Tires Inc. & Imported Auto Parts at 27th Street & Pine, Chan's Foreign Car Service in the old filling station at Pine & Folsom, and Mike's Camera at Folsom & Pearl.
