CU May Require Civics Courses

In a bold move, some regents at CU are looking strongly at a change to add a three credit hour course in civics to the basic graduation requirements.

In an era where most adults don’t even understand the basics of how the structure of our government works, the function of its branches, nor the country’s founding documents- especially the United States Constitution, this is very timely.

The apparent controversial part is that it’s the CU Board of Regents who are stepping in and potentially mandating curriculum. It would be the first time the board took this kind of action.

That tells me the board thinks it’s imperative that students come away with a degree that includes learning these fundamental points of how our federal government works. Hats off to the board.
