Urban camping is a term often used to describe how one sleeps when homeless. In Boulder, Denver and Longmont it’s illegal to sleep in public spaces such as parks, and open space.
Recently homeless folks and their advocates have tried to decriminalize ‘urban camping’ and the state Capitol was very busy this week listening to arguments addressing a bill that was introduced for the fourth consecutive year.
For the fourth year the bill was shot down.
This time the vote was blocked at the committee level with a vote of 10-3.
Similar to previous years the defeat 0f the Right To Rest Act was very disturbing to the crowd of people that turned out to support the current bill.
The outcome was considered a victory by the municipalities including Boulder which opposed the bill.
