Although there's been a playground for children in Erie at 1801 Tynan Drive for decades. The old playground was in dire need of some upgrades. Thanks to money from the Town of Erie general fund, and lots of volunteer help, there's now a brand new playground on the site.
Just about two weeks ago, over 30 volunteers grouped together throughout a hot weekend day to pool their efforts to build the new playground.
While the town paid over $130,000 to pay for the demolition of the old equipment, install new structures and surfacing, volunteers saved the town about $8,000 in additional costs.
The site will include two large multi age play structures, a climbing structure, swing set and spinning toys shaped like butterflies.
