You're not always being duped. Sometimes it isn't just the gas and oil industry going for that extra buck of profit. Recent gas price increases are actually due to the late December 2022 bad weather that wreaked havoc on the Suncor refinery.
Suncor recently shut down its Commerce City oil refinery for a couple of months to repair some damaged equipment.
Prices should adjust down eventually as Suncor gets back online and supplying the front range area which is primarily impacted by the shutdown for repairs.
