Cycling Restrictions In Foothills

Local Cyclists now have some of their favorite routes off limits during the weekdays from 8:00 am through 4:30 pm, and these restrictions have no end in sight.

The Fourmile Canyon route between the Sunset Townsite and Boulder Canyon. The same is true for the route on Gold Run Road between from Gold Hill and Salina Junction.

For those who live in the area, if you’re cycling as a commuter or for errands you’ll be able to get an exception from the restrictions. You must carry identification to prove you live in the area access by one of these roads, and can also get a ‘cycling pass’ by contacting Andrew Barth by either emailing abarth@bouldercounty.org or calling 303-441-1032.

Most of this work is in response to damage caused by the heavy rains in September 2013.

The county has asked cyclists to maintain single file riding formation this season during road work and reminds people in motor vehicles that cyclists have  the right to a three foot of buffer when being passed.

Heavy truck traffic is the primary reason for this change. Many of the large and longer trucks can’t safely maneuver around cyclists or stop quickly should they encounter cyclists in their path as they navigate the narrow canyon roads.

I’d seriously enjoy having the opportunity to talk to you about your plans if you’re moving, or if you know someone who is considering a move, and needs some straight answers.
