Also considered one of the Best Boulder Neighborhoods, Holiday fits the bill. The location might not be obvious until you approach from the south on 28th Street / Hwy 36, and see the Holiday Drive-In Marquee sign.
MY TAKE ON THIS NEIGHBORHOOD:
If you're into green-built homes, opportunities to walk instead of drive, having a well-thought-out planned community with work/live arrangements, multi-use spaces, and want to get into an area that's pretty hip, Holiday might be your speed. If you want a big chunk of land and lots of mature trees/landscape, you may be barking up the wrong tree if you're looking at Holiday.
It's a great choice with easy access to some of the same amenities that you get living in Dakota Ridge (like proximity to Amante Coffee, Lee Hill Drive/Hwy 36 north for biking enthusiasts) as well as the shops and restaurants of Uptown Broadway and other north Broadway businesses.1960s
HISTORY:
As several developers worked towards plans to find good locations for new homes, and Boulder continued to move northward, the Holiday location was perfect. The drive-in originally opened in the late 1960's. One of its first big draws was the movie Easy Rider. Consequently, there's a street in the Holiday neighborhood named after the famous movie which starred Peter Fonda and Dennis Hopper! The drive-in closed in 1988, but the memories live on in the restored Marquee sign.
WHAT'S NEW TODAY:
Don't expect too much new in the Holiday neighborhood. With the exception of eventually seeing the old National Guard property being razed and some sort of new development going in there to infill.
I have seen some changes in the commercial spaces, as different businesses come and go, for the most part, Holiday and the north Broadway area are complete. There are quite a few 'mixed-use' buildings, so you'll see everything from Architects, Yoga Studios, Coffee shops, and Massage Therapists.
This is a thriving area that's more or less self-contained if you want it to be. With the exception of a grocery store, (although Lucky's is just a few blocks south) I'd think you could walk, bike or bus to just about anywhere you need to go.
LOCAL HIGHLIGHTS:
At night, an especially nice feature is that you can see the stars! Thanks to outdoor lighting designed to maximize energy efficiency, reduce light pollution, and promote safety. Artist's lofts, pedestrian walkways, a two-acre city park, a community garden, and pocket parks. Some homes have great views of Dakota Ridge and The Flatirons to the south.

HIT THE SHOPS at Uptown Broadway and the surrounding area. Great options include Protos Pizza, Amante's Coffee, The North End at 4580, Bacco Trattoria, Dagabi Cucina, and many other great choices.
